About Oxboro Gate Services
A Bloomington gate company since 2010, working on driveway, pedestrian and commercial gates and the operators and entry devices that run them.
Oxboro Gate Services repairs, installs and maintains gates for homeowners, associations and small commercial sites in Bloomington and the cities around it. The work is gates and everything that moves them: hinges, posts and footings, rollers and tracks, operators, photo eyes, keypads, remotes and intercom access.
Bloomington’s mix of mid-century ramblers, newer subdivisions and commercial lots sits largely on frost-prone clay. Deep freezes, heavy snow and road salt are hard on gate posts, hinges and operators, and gate work here depends on how well the footings and hardware handle that freeze-thaw cycle year after year.
Started on a Fence Crew
Gilbert Mckay learned gate work on a fence crew, where his first job was hanging swing gates and setting the posts they hang from. He saw quickly that a gate is only as good as its footing: a shallow post or a hinge hung out of plumb shows up within a season as sag and a latch that won’t catch.
In 2010 he started Oxboro Gate Services in Bloomington. Today he does the site visits in person, walking each property, looking at the ground and the opening, and deciding what the gate needs before any estimate is written.
I learned this trade hanging swing gates and setting the posts they hang from. A gate is only as good as its footing, so I level everything and go back to check the work after the ground has settled.

What We Work On
- Gate Installation: new driveway swing and slide gates, pedestrian gates and the posts and footings they hang from.
- Gate Repair: sagging, dragging and binding gates, bent rollers, worn hinges and posts knocked out of plumb.
- Gate Openers: swing and slide operators installed, replaced and serviced, with photo eyes and battery backup.
- Access Control: keypads, remotes, intercoms, card readers and vehicle detection for gated entries.
- Maintenance: lubricating hardware, adjusting travel and limit settings, testing safety sensors, tightening posts and clearing tracks before winter.
- Commercial and HOA gates: shared entries, resident remotes and inspections for multi-gate properties.
